CHURCH LEADERSHIP

Christ, the Head of the church, has not left His people without order or care, but has appointed qualified men to serve and lead according to His Word. The New Testament presents two primary offices within the local church—elders and deacons—each with distinct responsibilities that together serve the health and building up of the body.

Elders are entrusted with the spiritual oversight of the church. They are called to shepherd the flock of God, to teach and guard sound doctrine, and to lead with humility and vigilance (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1–3; Titus 1:9). Their work is not one of authority for its own sake, but of faithful care, as those who will give an account before the Lord.

Deacons, likewise, are appointed to serve the practical needs of the church so that the ministry of the Word may not be neglected (Acts 6:1–7; 1 Timothy 3:8–13). Through their service, they support the work of the church and help preserve unity and order within the body.

Together, these offices reflect Christ’s provision for His church—ensuring that both the spiritual and practical needs of His people are faithfully cared for, and that all things are done in a manner worthy of the gospel.
